It’s me again! … Yeah, I know! I just won’t leave you alone. :P

Anyway, today I’m releasing a new version of my Easy Admin Color Schemes plugin for WordPress. It has one fix which addresses an issue that was bugging me but, the main purpose for the new version is the new color scheme that is included by default. I have decided to name it “For the Love of 2.3″. I created it for all of you who wish there was a way to make the new WordPress 2.5+ look like the old WordPress 2.3. I have spent lots of time on getting it to where it is now and I’m pretty happy with it. It isn’t a completely faithful recreation but I think it’s pretty darn close.

I was considering releasing it as it’s own standalone plugin but I figured by including it with Easy Admin Color Schemes I could get some more attention for that plugin.

It’s all done with pure CSS. No modification of any of the core code is at work here. It would have been much easier if I had modified some of the core code but I wanted to achieve it with pure CSS so I could make it a part of my Easy Admin Color Schemes plugin. Also, it makes it more portable that way.

Here is a preview:

Anyway, please give the new scheme a shot and let me know what you think. Also, if you find any issues please let me know. I haven’t been able to test it in many browsers so it could look like complete garbage for some people.

I hope this new scheme will help ease the transition to WordPress 2.5. I also hope it is acceptable for those of you I know were crying out for a 2.3-like theme when they first saw the new 2.5 interface.

Sorry it has taken this long to get it out to you all. Enjoy. :)

Nice Work James. Although it’s no write panel from WordPress 2.3, at least it can give WP 2.5 user’s that nostalgic feeling when using this color scheme :)

Nice!

I got used to the 2.5 admin layout pretty quickly, but can understand how it threw some people for a loop. This looks like it could be a good compromise for those folks.

Thanks for taking the time to comment guys. I appreciate it.

I agree, I’ve come to like the new 2.5 interface. I just wanted to make this for those who wanted it. I know there were quite a few. When 2.5 was first released it seemed like everywhere I read someone was wishing for a way to go back to the 2.3 look. Well, hopefully this helps. :)

Hi! Just tried your 2.3 admin theme and i like it! Only one error I’ve seen is when one happen to have a lot of plugins activated, the height wont adjust itself in the Settings submenu, making some options unviewable. I guess there are no problem in IE but I’m with a mac so I’ll tell you what I did to correct this:

just modify the height:25px; in the #submenu for min-height:25px; and everything should be fine :)

@Dave: Hey! Thanks for trying it out. I’m glad you like it.

About the error, thanks for taking the time to track down the cause. I really appreciate it. I’ll add that fix to the code and it will be in the next release which should be very soon.

Please feel free to let me know about any other errors/problems you find.

Thanks again. :)
