Today I’m releasing a new plugin for WordPress called Hab.laOlark for WordPress.

Olark is a fairly new project that allows website authors to implement a live help mechanism on their sites. Olark makes it very easy. Just drop in the JavaScript, customize it in your Olark account, and start chatting with your site visitors through your favorite IM client.

Olark for WordPress makes it even easier for WordPress authors. Just drop in the plugin, enter your Olark account ID on the plugin settings page, and then start chatting. No messing with code required!

    Installation
    1. Extract all files from the ZIP archive, making sure to keep the file structure intact.
    2. Upload the olark-for-wordpress folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
    3. Activate the plugin through the Plugins menu in WordPress.
    4. Go to the Olark for WordPress menu which is located under the Settings menu in the admin interface.
    5. Enter your Olark account ID and then go to the frontend of your website to see your new chat widget in action!
    Usage

You must have a Olark account to be able to use this plugin. Signing up for a Olark account is quick and easy. Once you’ve done that you will get an account ID. You must enter this ID in the plugin settings page for the plugin to work correctly.

You will also need to set up your IM client correctly. Details on doing that can be found here.

Once you have both the plugin and your IM client setup correctly you will be able to chat with the visitors of your website.

Hi, I am a web developer. I have used you plugin. Its rocking…!

But one thing i would like to know is, can we remove hab.la credit information from the bottom of the chat window?

And also, is there any way get the original script for hab.la in my own server? If yes , is it free? If no, how much i have to pay to get that script in readable format?

I can pay to get the complete solution in my server.

      Thanks in advance.

About removing Hab.la credit, you’ll have to ask the head Hab.la developers. You might try posting the question here.

You’ll also need to ask them about putting it on your server. There was in fact an ongoing discussion about allowing Hab.la on your own server but it seems it was removed. Have a look here and perhaps add it again. Just make sure you give specific reasons why you would want it. I remember from before that nobody could actually come up with some real reasons why it should be allowed.

I hope that info helps. Good luck!

      James,

Awesome plugin for wordpress! It works well and makes it easy for a person like me who only dabbles with code.

I was wondering if you are ever going to release a version of the plugin that works in the sidebar (kind of like on your website) of wordpress sites. So that it doesn’t float but is rather embedded. Does that make sense?

      Again, thanks for the plugin!

        Hi Nathan,
I’m glad you like the plugin…

There is actually a setting in Hab.la to set it inline. However, it does require you to add some code for it.

I think it should be pretty easy to add such a setting to the plugin. I’ll figure out what would be the best way to do it and I’ll add it to the next version.

So keep an eye out for that. ;)

Oh! Sorry. I forgot about your comment.

Anyway, you’ll need to do that through your account on the official Hab.la site.

Hope it works out for you.

        Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble. I’ve read about many similar problems in the official Hab.la forum. The staff there are always ready to help and fix Hab.la if needed. They just need some details about your particular problem.

So, I would try to post your problem there.

As for your other question, I don’t really understand what you’re saying. Could you please try to clearify?

        Thanks!

I was driving home about a week ago and had a panic attack, called 911 and was driven to the er. It was the first time that I had one and really knew nothing about them
previously so was completely freaking out. Ever since I have still felt as if I wasn’t breathing correctly (like my throat is closed up), and have had pains and tightness in
my chest. I was just wondering if this was normal because I have talked to a few doctors and they said I was fine, I read up a little about panic attacks symptoms
      Any ideas?

        Hi there!

I have been on Paxil for a few years now. It really seems to help me most of the time with most of my symptoms. However, I still have problems now and then.

I’d say the chest pains are normal. I get them quite a lot. The shortness of breath too. It always seems like something is wrong but try not to fear. It seems to be normal for people like us. I won’t be at all surprised if I have problems like this for the rest of my life.

But, just as long as you’re on a medication that helps you and you have a good support system for when you do have a bad attack I’d say you’ll be just fine.

In my town we have a thing called the Crisis Line. You can call it 24/7 and talk to someone. You can talk about anything and everything. Its to help you get your mind off of the thing(s) causing your attack so that you can return to a normal state. They also have great advice about how to deal with your attacks. Like, using a paper bag, meditating, etc.

If you have the choice I’d highly recommend using such a service. It has gotten me out of some pretty bad panic episodes.

Hi James – we’re quite stoked on Olark, and your plugin looks like a great way to integrate it.

We’re running 2.84. I installed the plugin, confirmed permissions were A-OK, activated it, put in my (numeric) Olark ID, and… nothing.

The Olark chat box does not appear on any pages – except for the one page where I hand-dropped the script onto the page code.
The working page is http://www.technomad.com/order/ . Even after a server reboot, the plugin doesn’t serve any Jvascript on the other pages. Any thoughts? Very Best,

      Karl
